While the list of nominees features some truly remarkable films, the missing names are whats most interesting. Taron Egerton was snubbed for Lead Actor in "Rocketman," and the film itself only managed to get one nominee for Best Original Song. As someone who liked "Rocketman" monumentally more than 2018's "Bohemian Rhapsody," the Queen biopic, I'm disappointed to see that it didn't make the cut.
In addition, Adam Sandler's "Uncut Gems" isn't up for any awards, and neither is Robert De Niro, who starred in "The Irishman." Fans of Marvel were also hoping to see Robert Downey Jr. receive a nomination for his portrayal as Iron Man in "Avengers: Endgame," but that didn't happen either. Also missing is Jennifer Lopez in "Hustlers," Eddie Murphy in "Dolemite Is My Name," and Lupita Nyong'o in "Us."
What are your thoughts on this year's nominees? The list features some very notable names, but there also seems to be a lot missing. Films that, in my opinion, deserve to be up there.
The 92nd Academy Awards will air Sunday, February 9 at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC.
